Former Goldman Sachs Economist Accused of Financial Misdeeds

Fourth-Term District Attorney to Appear in Court on Tuesday

Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O'Neill has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to alleged financial misconduct, the Department of Justice announced today. O'Neill, a former chief economist at Goldman Sachs, is accused of insider trading and other securities violations.

According to the indictment, O'Neill used his access to non-public information while at Goldman Sachs to make profitable trades in the stock market. He is also charged with lying to investigators about his involvement in the scheme.

O'Neill is scheduled to appear in federal court on Tuesday to face the charges. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

The indictment comes after a two-year investigation by the FBI and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The SEC has also filed a civil complaint against O'Neill, seeking to recover the ill-gotten gains from his alleged misconduct.

O'Neill has been a prosecutor in Forsyth County since 2009 and is currently serving his fourth term as District Attorney. He has previously denied any wrongdoing. His attorney has not yet commented on the charges.
